Status of the Centre

Since 2005, the Conservation Biology Institute and Global Forest Watch Canada have been assembling and summarizing important data to guide effective land-use and conservation planning in the Canadian boreal forest, focusing first on portions that have already been allocated for development.
An advisory group was formed in 2006, comprised of conservation organizations and forest products industry representatives, to help formulate the Centre’s mission and devise its business plan.
In 2007, the Boreal Information Centre plans to:
- expand its focal area to adjacent boreal ecoregions in the U.S.
- include more detailed data and information on particular areas of interest
- continue working with partners to fill important continental, national and regional data gaps
